Licensing & Education

There are currently three license levels for amateur radio operators: Technician, General, and Extra. Each progression to a higher level allows additional operating privileges, but also has more knowledge requirements to achieve. Technician is considered entry level and passing this exam is required before moving on to athe General. After passing the General, the final and highest class is the Amateur Extra.

Exams are given by volunteers. There is a small charge to sit for an exam session and an FCC fee of $35 for an initial license.

CARS currently does not offer licensing classes due to the fact that there are so many useful and excellent online study aids. Please see this page for the latest study guide information.
