CARS Club gathered together this year to participate in Field Day at the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport recreation center. Club members started showing up at 11 am Saturday morning to get things rolling. Once Jack, NW4TF, our fearless leader laid out the gameplan, antennas started spouting all over the place.
At one point, six stations were set up to include FT8 and CW. The outside field at the rec center was a minefield of guy wires and poles.
Let’s not leave out the wonderful snacks and sandwich provisions supplied by our hospitality chairman Ralph, KM4MCL. We had everything needed to make an Italian homemade sandwich and plenty of sweet treats to go along with it. Billy, KG4SZS, brought coolers of much-needed drinks and ice to help fight off the heat. Everyone that helped to set up was in great need of some liquid hydration by the time things were online.
We had long-time club members and some future club members attend. Several family members tagged along to see what this was all about and some even pitched in to make some contacts.
Operator’s moved to several different stations throughout the day and night to try a little bit of everything.
Even our president needs a break every now and again!!
Some folks just socialized and enjoyed the company of other friends while the event roared on.
A few of our newer members came to help out and learn a few things. Every bit helps!!
There are too many names to mention individually but we all know and appreciate the ones that helped set up, participate and tear down. It takes all of us to make this a successful event and it certainly was successful!! Here is the link to our ARRL 2023 Entry.
